Do not yield

On the concept of etiquette amidst oppression

One cannot abide the decorum of the oppressor. To resist is to be uncivil.

As I've observed, change requires both MLK and Malcolm X.

Violence is never ideal, but just as animals will be violent when they perceive no alternative, humans will become more violent when all peaceful options have been taken away.

When there is a boot on your neck, literally, it is fair to start by asking them to remove it, or to plead to people nearby to help, but once it is clear that the boot will remain until you die, the choice to fight is reasonable and civilized.

Some of the situations we are seeing are figurative boots on your neck, but just as deadly. Peaceful options are always tried first. When peaceful protest is ignored, the oppressors are staking their own lives and well-being on a gamble that you cannot change your situation without their permission-- which they refuse to grant.

The current unrest and violence is a consequence of removing the efficacy of peaceful alternatives.

It is a shame to see collateral damage, but I would hardly call those who stand idly and complicit in the oppression of mass groups of people "innocent".

Just as the ultimatum has been issued to the oppressed, so it turns upon the oppressors and demands that they grant dignity and respect to all people or expect resistance at the level required to enact change.
