A wave that promised equity,
And parity of rights.
A justified rebellion,
And a truly noble fight.
The backbone of the family,
Deserves to have a say,
In how the land that they reside
Will journey on her way.
But the right to equal treatment
Soon morphed into something new.
The illusion of sameness,
A surely toxic brew.
Freed up from daily tedium
Of caring for their own.
The women sought their rightful place,
And walked their path alone.
Some self-imposed sterility,
In pursuit of jobs on high,
But it didn’t make them happy
And soon left them to decry.
The men they’d tried to emulate
Soon focused into view.
And became the target of their angst,
Disunity renewed.
The chasm it grew wider,
Along with great confusion.
And with every blow they struck at men,
It was themselves they were abusing.
But they did not know it yet,
And still had to figure out,
That there is no yin without the yang
And that’s what life’s about.
This contrast must be honoured
To pursue true equality,
We must recognise strength in each other
To fulfill our destiny.
