One of the harsh realities of living in india at present is that there are very few opportunities for professionals, migrants from poorer communities online. So the professionals, migrants from the poorer, powerless communities in India are forced to do crypto work, from any website which pays them as promised. Now after Binance website is blocked in India, one online investor, worker opened an account with an Indian exchange Coin*.
Coin* has not released the payment to the crypto account and is asking for details of the senders PAN, passport or driving license. Some online workers, investors have extremely powerful enemies in India, so they only receive payment from customers outside India for the work they do. In this case the payment was sent from a Barcelona Spain business. Though the details of website, screenshot of payment and company name has been uploaded, the BTC payment is not released after more than 12 hours.
The online worker, investor is also receiving PayPal payments from customers worldwide, she does not have to ask the customers for their passport or driving license copy to get the payment credited to the bank account. Some online businesses have their PayPal account disabled or PayPal is not available in the country, so they send crypto payment to their vendors. Yet the Indian exchange refuses to acknowledge that the crypto payment is for export of services or products sold and are insisting on passport, driving license copy.
In addition to the Spanish company, the online worker, investor is receiving crypto payment from at least 4-5 other websites in different countries for affiliate marketing, advertising and other computer, online work. It is not possible for online worker, to ask all these online businesses to send passport copies. The well paid government employees especially from the FIU should have some pity for the online workers, who are making very less money, and stop insisting on a passport/driving license copy when the amount received is usually very small, Rs 1000 or less.
When online workers receiving PayPal/Payoneer/Stripe payment are not asked to provide customer passport details to get the payment credited to their bank account, why should workers receiving crypto payment have to provide the customers passport/driving license copy?
