Hackers demand $24.6 million bitcoin ransom after taking down servers of top medical college

All india institute of medical sciences (AIIMS) is the top rated medical institution in India. The media reported that the AIIMS servers in Delhi were hacked and hackers are allegedly demanding Rs 200 crore (approximately $24.56 million) in bitcoin for restoring the servers. Though the media later reported that the police have denied that it is ransomware attack, the servers are down for more than 11 days, and all the procedures are being done manually. The medical college has approximately 5000 computers.


The India Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN), Delhi Police and representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs are investigating the ransomware attack. Though the government offices and organizations are being computerized rapidly, the levels of computer literacy in India remains low, and the AIIMS employees may have clicked on a phishing mail resulting in hackers getting control.

Additionally the government also does not value experienced webmasters who understand how the internet works, with top tech, internet companies openly involved in identity, resume theft rackets on experienced webmasters to get the girlfriends, relatives and associates of top government employees who have never managed any website government jobs in the internet sector. The tech, internet companies, government agencies are aware that these relatives, associates are mainly housewives only cooking, cleaning for their crooked husband, having jobs or working in other sectors, yet the government falsely claims that they are online experts, domain investors to give them monthly government salaries, great powers since 2010.

Now the media is reporting that other hospital servers in Delhi are also being hacked. The government policy of hiring high status well connected fake online experts with no experience, in the internet sector may have led to hacking of hospital, medical college servers.
