What Really Happened with Polygon on July 30th

By NOWNodes | NOWNodes | 31 Jul 2025

On July 30th, something strange started happening on the Polygon network. Users noticed that transactions weren’t going through, and new blocks weren’t being produced. At first, the official channels were silent — and the crypto community, as always, was quick to notice.

Under Polygon’s celebratory post about Ethereum’s mainnet anniversary, comments started rolling in:

“Hey, why haven’t we heard anything for two hours?”
“Is anyone else seeing stuck transactions?”

People were confused — and for good reason.

So, What Was Going On?

At first, many assumed Polygonscan was simply showing incorrect data. Later, Polygon Labs clarified the situation: the issue was caused by a problem with Heimdall, a core part of the Polygon infrastructure. Heimdall is responsible for validating transactions and syncing with Ethereum.

One of the validators unexpectedly dropped off the network, which caused Heimdall to temporarily stop working. As a result, block confirmations halted for about an hour. Meanwhile, Bor, the system that actually produces blocks, continued running — but without Heimdall, the network wasn’t fully synchronized.

Quick Recovery, but Concerns Remain

The engineering team at Polygon reacted quickly and had Heimdall back online within the hour. Still, the disruption wasn’t without consequences: the price of POL dropped by roughly 5%, falling to $0.21 according to CoinGecko.

This wasn’t the first technical issue for Polygon this year. Back in March, the Polygon zkEVM network experienced a 10-hour outage. These repeated incidents are raising concerns in the developer and DeFi communities.

What We Did at NOWNodes

At NOWNodes, we detected the disruption the moment it began. Our monitoring systems picked up the abnormal behavior immediately. Within minutes, we shared alerts across all our communication channels — email, Telegram, social media, and client dashboards.

We know how critical it is to stay ahead of blockchain issues. Delays and downtime can impact wallets, dApps, and exchanges in real time. That’s why we move fast, communicate clearly, and keep our clients in the loop from the first sign of trouble.

If you're looking for a reliable infrastructure partner who not only runs stable nodes but also keeps you informed during incidents, NOWNodes is here to help. We’re more than just a node provider — we’re a team that watches your back, even when blockchains don’t.
