The Ethereum Foundation (EF) has launched a new stage of its Trillion Dollar Security initiative, this time with a strong focus on improving the user experience (UX) in wallets and applications. For both private and institutional users, EF identified UX shortcomings as one of the most critical pain points — and now they’re moving to fix it.
Setting a Security Standard for Wallets
A core part of EF’s plan is to establish a unified security standard for wallets. Such a framework would serve as a benchmark for end-users, helping them distinguish between reliable and risky solutions.
Developers will be required to implement:
-
Transaction transparency features
-
Robust protection against compromise
-
Advanced confirmation management tools
To accelerate development, EF is funding Walletbeat, a project aimed at bringing these wallet standards to life.
Tackling the “Blind Signature” Problem
One of the most pressing UX issues in Ethereum today is blind signing — when users approve transactions without fully understanding their content. EF has outlined three main strategies to address this challenge:
-
Readable Transaction Data – Introducing tools to decode raw transaction details into human-readable formats. To aid developers, EF is promoting the Verifier Alliance (VERA), an open database for transaction interpretation.
-
New and Revised EIPs – Revisiting old Ethereum Improvement Proposals and drafting new ones to simplify transaction handling for wallets.
-
Transaction Simulation – Allowing users to preview the final outcome of a transaction before signing it.
These improvements could dramatically reduce the risks of accidental approvals, scams, or hidden malicious actions.
Preventing Vulnerabilities Before Deployment
EF also plans to help developers detect vulnerabilities in smart contracts before deployment. To support this, the foundation will assist in creating a public database of known issues. Development tools could integrate this database to automatically flag problematic code patterns, strengthening Ethereum’s security at the root.
Bridging UX for All Users
Finally, EF acknowledged the importance of designing wallets for different audiences:
-
Simple wallets tailored for non-technical users
-
Specialized solutions for enterprise clients
The call to action is clear: the Ethereum community must collaborate to make Web3 safer, easier, and more inclusive.
Why This Matters
At NOWNodes, we see this initiative as a significant milestone. Ethereum’s success depends not only on scalability and decentralization but also on ensuring that everyday users can interact with the network safely and intuitively.
By addressing blind signatures, setting wallet standards, and supporting developers with better tooling, EF is laying the groundwork for a more secure and user-friendly Ethereum ecosystem.
