NFT characters are the cornerstone of NFT games. In Warena's 2D game, the in-game NFT characters, called Warriors in Warena's parlance, are one of the main centers of attraction in the game.
Understanding the Warena Warriors’ characteristics in-depth will help you develop a strong strategy to conquer in-game enemies and advance Stages more easily.
Just like any other digital item represented on the blockchain as an NFT, Warena Warriors are unique in their identity. The Warena team has done an awesome job in further classifying the Warriors into various races, rarities, and element types, thereby creating a game with a very diverse range of NFT characters. This diversity of the Warriors brings so much dynamism into the game. The dynamic nature of the game gives the player lots of room for creativeness in planning their gaming strategy.
RACE
In the Warena ecosystem, Warriors are firstly classified as being either of the Human, Robot, Dragon or Elf races. This is the most basic, physical distinction between Warriors. At the moment, the Human and Robot races are the only available races. The Dragon and Elf races have been scheduled to be released at later dates [see the Warena Roadmap]. A Warrior of the Human race is built to have some human-like resemblance, especially facially; while a Warrior of the Robot race is more robotic in appearance. From my experience in playing the game, both Human and Robot Warriors are equally strong against enemies—just a perk of the Robot race having a slightly higher base stat [learn more about Warriors base stats in the Warena documentation]. You can have a team of 3 Warriors that comprises all 3 Human or Robot warriors, or a combination of both—there are no restrictions in this regard.
RARITY
Warriors are further classified into rarities in Warena's ecosystem. There are Warriors of Common, Rare, Epic and Legend rarities. At the moment, only Warriors of the Common and Rare rarities have been released by the Warena team. Epic and Legend are scheduled to be released at a later date [see the Warena Roadmap]. As the term implies, rarity signifies how many of a Warrior’s type are available in the Warena ecosystem. Just like in the real, non-metaverse world, the more rare an item or commodity is, the costlier its price is likely to be.
One of the in-game advantages of having rare Warriors is that rare Warriors can be leveled up to Level 50, and their Skill can be upgraded to Level 5 in the game; while common Warriors can be leveled up to a limit of Level 30, and their Skill can be upgraded to Level 3.
What effect might this data have in your gameplay? A player with a team that comprises rare Warriors can advance to much higher Stages quickly, defeat more enemies easily and earn higher Challenge points as rare Warriors have more room for growth and upgrade than common Warriors. And finally based on our previous analogy of a real, non-metaverse commodity, when a rare Warrior is listed for trading, it is more likely to have a higher bidding price than a common Warrior. That being said, it is relatively cheaper to purchase common Warriors; common Warriors also battle enemies effectively and can earn you just as much $WARE tokens as rare Warriors can earn.
On the Warena marketplace and in the 2D game's “team page,” rare Warriors are denoted standing on blue-lit oval plates.
ELEMENT
Every Warrior is assigned an element in Warena. The 5 elements available are Earth, Water, Fire, Metal and Grass. Enemies that appear in battles also have various elements. To defeat enemies easily, you can use a Warrior with a counter Element. As seen in the infographic above, elements and their counter elements are depicted in the table. When you, for example, encounter enemies of fire element in a battle, you can include Warriors of water element in your team to deal an extra 15 percent damage. Before each battle, the elements of the enemies you would encounter are depicted as small icons next to the enemy. If you have the resources to purchase several Warriors with differing element types, it will boost your gameplay strategy, as you would be able to switch Warriors in your team to counter enemies based on their element. This is the same strategy used in, say, sports games like football. Depending on the opponent a football team will play against, the coach can reshuffle the team’s playing formation, players’ position and substitute certain players.
Your Warena NFTs are not your regular NFTs; they are NFTs with “life” in them. As more races, rarities and elements are released by the Warena team, there will be a whole lot more these NFTs will be capable of.
