The hacker who targeted Nexus Mutual CEO Hugh Karp and stole $8.3 million has asked for a ransom of 4.5k ETH, or around $3 million, according to a message embedded in the Ethereum transaction.
- The embedded message reads “Hello Hugh. I will not sell wNXM any more until wNXM recovers his value or you send me 4.5k ETH. If you need any negotiation with me, send msg to my eth address.”
- The hacker stole $8 million from Karp on Dec.14; the CEO promised to drop an investigation and provide a bounty of $300k if the funds were returned
- The attacker gained remote access to Karp’s computer, tricking Metamask into sending 370,000 NXM to the his own wallet
- The stolen funds are already on the move, with DEXs being used to swap at $2.7 million worth of NXM tokens
