Over $31 million in Bitcoin (BTC) has moved from wallets that have remained inactive for 10 years, a development that was first pointed out by trader Kirill Kretov on Nov. 8.
- Since Nov 6., three separation transactions have taken place from wallets first created in 2010
- The first transaction moved 50 BTC out of a wallet on Nov. 6; this was followed by a 1000 BTC transaction from a batch of 20 wallets seven hours later
- Another batch of 20 wallets transferred 1000 BTC a day later, bringing the total to 2050 BTC
- Calling this an “awakening”, Kretov suggested that the owner had sold the BTC to make a profit at Bitcoin’s current prices
- On Nov. 4, nearly $1 billion in BTC associated with a defunct dark web marketplace Silk Road had moved, raising eyebrows about the wallet which had been inactive for 5 years
- It was later discovered that these Bitcoin had to do with a seizure by the US government
