Coinciding with the launch of its mainnet 2.0, the Theta (THETA) project announced on May 27 that Google Cloud has joined its Enterprise Validator Program, which sees members validate transactions for the video platform-focused crypto project.
This collaboration also features Google Cloud becoming Theta’s preferred cloud provider, as well as letting users run Theta nodes via the Google Cloud Marketplace. The enterprise validator program counts many other notable entities as members, including Binance, Blockchain Ventures and gumi.
Google will additionally take on the responsibility of powering the cloud infrastructure for the THETA.tv video platform, an esports streaming site built on the Theta Network.
Allen Day, Developer Advocate for Google Cloud, noted the potential that Distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs) held in disrupting the entertainment industry,
Distributed ledger technology enables new business models that potentially transform the global digital economy, including the media & entertainment industry. We’re impressed by Theta’s achievements in blockchain video and data delivery. We look forward to participating as an enterprise validator, and to providing Google Cloud infrastructure in support of Theta’s long-term mission and future growth.
Theta Lab’s Mainnet 2.0 brings a greater level of security and decentralization to the network, which Theta Labs says can scale to millions of concurrent viewers thanks to the reliability and security provided by the validator nodes.
The Theta Labs project has also been funded by Samsung NEXT and others through 2021 and beyond, with long-term goals being to cement its position as an engaging content platform.
