In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, multiple figures from the cryptocurrency industry will participate in a VR-based conference, a partial remedy for the suspension and halting of multiple events that have occurred recently.
The BlockDown 2020 conference, as it is known, will take place on April 16 and 17, from 9 AM to 9 PM CET. Confirmed attendees include Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, Bitcoin Cash proponent Roger Ver, Stellar co-founder Jed McCaleb, ShapeShift CEO Erik Voorhees and singer Akon, who will feature in a showcase session.
Described as the “new lockdown” and promising “to be the leading remote blockchain event of the year”, BlockDown will cover investments, trading, DeFi, social impact, privacy, security, enterprise and gaming. The event will see discussions, Q&As and networking sessions - and one event called the Akoin Dapp Pitch Fest, which will see various companies pitch DApp solutions that could help empower Africans.
BlockDown 2020 is being organized by EAK Digital, a blockchain PR agency that has worked with NEO, TomoChain and Monolith.
The use of virtual spaces in lieu of physical ones, to bring some sense of normalcy of proceedings, has steadily been growing. The Decentraland project recently conducted a VR-based event from March 31 to April 4, which included games and talks centered on blockchain technology.
