Nat Gas energy and Crypto mining for the Win/Win
Businesses are always looking to tackle issues large and small. Crypto mining just might be the solution for an age old oil & gas problem; flaring.
Why Do Oil Companies and Natural Gas Care? They are a heavily regulated industry and constantly being asked to reduce their Greenhouse Gases (GHG).
Where does the oil/gas come from that gets flared? The majority of oil production sites produce associated gases as a byproduct of the production process. For safety and economic reasons, these gases are typically either burned off via flaring or vented directly into the atmosphere. I.E. Flaring is an economical way to deal with excess gases.
Presenting a solution to a problem - Crypto mining! We all know that Crypto mining is energy intensive (a BBC study from '19 showed that all the Crypto mining that took place in '19 used more energy than all of Switzerland combined. The Swiss population is estimated to have a Population of - 8,691,143 people in 2021. https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/switzerland-population/
The newest power consumption values place crypto mining it is estimated that the Bitcoin network is consuming almost 80 terawatt-hours per year.
Add in a sprinkle of a 'warm winter' and you have excess gas (as people are not heating their homes to combat snowy temps) coupled with poor economic incentives, means that for many sites the only option is to vent or flare gas.
It also means that any potential solution needs to be able to be deployed on-site, and not require expensive infrastructure.
And natural gas converted into electricity and utilized on-site would essentially be free. Which is a great business model for Crypto Miners
Bringing Bitcoin Mining Operations to the drilling fields - Denver, CO USA firm Crusoe Energy Systems Inc. has already deployed it’s low-cost/no-cost “Digital Flare Mitigation” program to around 20 data centers in oil fields in the United States.
Additionally, te company also recently signed an agreement with Kraken Oil & Gas to deploy 18 more. In regard to how it impacts GHG he company uses EPA-certified emission control technology and catalytic converters to significantly reduce emissions compared to flare exhaust streams.

For example, they estimate that it can reduce methane emissions by up to 95%.
The Norwegian state-owned oil company Equinor has announced a partnership with Crusoe Energy Solutions to use its unique solution to reduce flaring. Bitcoin mining company EZ Blockchain has also looked into how it can leverage unused gas in its own mining operations.
Summary this is an Environmentally Friendly Changes Need to Make Economic Sense! They will help the environment and get free electricity. I would if Peter Thiel will do this in West Texas?
