Little-known arboreal fungus - Schizophyllum amplum

By madventure | Nature, Photography | 16 Feb 2024

This little arboreal mushroom looks wonderful, but you need a bit of luck and good eyesight to spot it.

It is very small, its diameter is a maximum of 20 mm.

We can meet it on dead pieces of poplar, aspen and sometimes willow wood.

The mushroom takes the form of tiny cups, ears, which are pale brown on the inside, while the outer layer is much lighter and covered with fine hairs.

The fungus can be found from spring to autumn, but if the winter is mild, the fungus can be found all year round in moist and warm places.

The mushroom is not poisonous, but has no culinary uses. It has no distinct taste or smell.

Enjoy 😉
