Life on the pond has died down. There are no birds to be seen at all. Perhaps this is due to the ice that has been a rarity for many years.

But winter can be tricky. It seems like it's getting warmer, like winter is leaving, but suddenly you wake up to find half a meter of snow in front of your house. That's how surprising winter can be.
