This strange and beautiful mushroom can be found in late autumn, mainly on cut or dead poplars. Additionally, it has characteristic large scales, hence its name Poplar Łuskwiak.

Tego dziwnego, a jednoczenie ślicznego grzyba, możemy spotkać późną jesienią, głównie na ściętych lub martwych topolach. Dodatkowo posiada charakterystyczne duże łuski, stąd też jego nazwa Łuskwiak topolowy.

This mushroom can have a cap up to 20 cm in diameter. When it is young it is almost white in color, with age it becomes ocher, brown with characteristic wool scales. It is often slimy to the touch and wet, quite fleshy, a bit like jellyfish.

Grzyb ten może mieć kapelusz dochodzący do 20 cm średnicy. Gdy jest młody jest koloru prawie białego, z wiekiem staje się ochrowy, brązowy z charakterystycznymi wełnianymi łuskami. Często jest śluzowaty w dotyku i mokry, dość mięsisty, trochę jak meduza.

The shape of the hat is semicircular, convex with time, until it is almost flat in old age. The brim of the hat is rolled up and the scales hang down.

Kształt kapelusza jest półkolisty, z czasem jest wypukły, aż prawie płaski na starość. Brzegi kapelusza są podwinięte, a łuski nich zwisają.

The gills are initially light creamy in color, with age they acquire a rusty and almost brown color. They are tightly arranged, dense, wide and fused with the leg.

Blaszki mają początkowo jasnokremowy kolor, z wiekiem nabierają rdzawej i prawie brunatnej barwy. Są ściśle ułożone, gęste, szerokie i zrośnięte z nóżką.

The leg is thick and massive, with a cylindrical shape. The circle of the stipe is whitish at the top and rusty brown at the bottom, and may be scaly. The leg has a ring.

Nóżka jest gruba i masywna, o cylindrycznym kształcie. Koło trzonu jest u góry biaława, a na dole rdzawa, brązowa, może być łuskowata. Nóżka posiada pierścień.

The mushroom flesh is white in color, brown, rusty in older fruiting bodies. The smell of the mushroom is unpleasant and the taste is often very bitter, and although it is not poisonous, it disqualifies it in the kitchen.

Miąższ grzyba jest koloru białego, u starszych owocników brunatny, rdzawy. Zapach grzyba jest nieprzyjemny, a smak często bardzo gorzki, i choć nie jest trujący dyskwalifikuje go to w kuchni.

The fungus is quite popular in deciduous forests where poplar grows. It appears on poplar trunks and wood in late autumn.
Occurrence - quite frequent, it appears in late autumn in clusters on trunks and poplar wood.

Grzyb jest dość popularny w lasach liściastych gdzie rośnie topola. Pojawia się na pniach i drewnie topoli późną jesienią.

The mushroom is inedible due to its bitter taste and unpleasant smell.

Grzyb niejadalny ze względu na gorzki smak i nieprzyjemny zapach.
