It helps me and the people around me from being victims of violent crime
The average police response time in the US is 10 minutes. A lot can happen in 10 minutes. The defensive use of a firearm outnumbers criminal and unlawful uses. Telling assailants or presenting a gun (without aiming it with your finger on the trigger) is often enough to make the assailant stop or flee. This applies to assault, attempted murder, or even home invasions (I am not a lawyer, this just depends on my state. Carrying a firearm allows you to protect yourself until the police arrive. It does NOT make you John Wick or Rambo!
One of the things that disheartens me is when someone finds out I conceal carry, they are quick to assume I am up to no good. In the event of a criminal committing a crime, a person who is carrying a gun is able to PROTECT OTHERS before police show up. We're the people who are here to HELP YOU in that situation NOT harm you!
I personally hope I never have to use my pistol for the protection of myself or others, but if it comes to it, I will protect the innocent.
