Fifth in a series of deeply intimate "strange epigrams" for two glass armonicas, exploiting the ethereal qualities of this instrument. The title, " ... Von süden weht es" ("a wind blows from the south"), quotes the closing line of Stefan George's poem "Im morgen‑taun" ("In the morning dew"), from that poet's 1907 verse cycle "Der siebente Ring" ("The Seventh Ring"). This is a delicate yet melancholy song without words, increasing in intensity until arriving at a contrasting sparser and more ominous episode, before a varied recapitulation of the opening phrases closes the work. The painting in the video is "Sailing by Moonlight" by Martin Johnson Heade.
