Pop punk music. The pizza. The vans warped tour and sense of being forever young as a teenager in the 2000s.
Yet, 2 decades later, I’m still drawn to this genre of music.
I think it has a lot to do with the music I listened to in high school. It was different than the music I listened to before that.
The lyrics were more straightforward and real, they weren’t as abstract or dark.
They made me feel understood. The bands had problems and they too seemed like kids dealing with problems (some of which were different from mine).
My first leap into Pop Punk fandom was Relient K’s “Mmhmm” album released in 2004. Absolutely loved it. Somehow, I never worn out that CD.
From there, I really dived into the rabbit hole of the genre and various other Rock related music. Punk, Metal, Hardcore, Metalcore, you name it.
Even to this day, I still love me some good Pop Punk music. Must be why I’m a fan of all the parody songs that Jarrod Alonge brought to our head-banging ears. The Pop Goes Punk albums are great as well.
Any of you guys Pop Punk fans?
