Just as the episode started, I was stunned. Chris and Freddie went to Mexico for the Baja 1000 race. It's a grueling, tough race, sometimes even experienced drivers can't finish this race. Top Gear is getting better and better, for this episode they raised the bar. They are always seeking tougher challenges.
Their race didn't start well, first, their buggy went off, so they had to jump start it, and while waiting to start the GPS went crazy and was not showing their location accurately, it was fine at the time. Twenty miles into the race, the gearbox belt just snapped and took with it a few wires, it took them an hour and 38 minutes to fix this issue and all the hard work overtaking the other cars went into flames. This fix really did cause them a whole lot of other problems, continuing the trajectory they came across fans driving in the opposite direction towards the next checkpoint. Later on, the GPS bit them in the butt, it misled them into taking a wrong turn, which means even more time lost. Back on track, another problem occurred this time the buggy overheated and they lost power steering, the car became very hard to drive especially while turning. Freddie spent the whole day waiting for Chris to arrive at the checkpoint and when he finally arrived they had to fix the car. So, Freddie had to wait longer. To be able to fix the car 100% the mechanics needed to get the car to the workshop and this would further delay their race by 4 hours. Having only done 70 miles only and 9 hours already gone, the producers had to call it day. I was really disappointed, I wanted to see them go at least halfway through this adventure.
Back in the studio, Chris reviews some family cars for under 30 000 pounds. It was a nice quick review for a dozen cars and the best one according to him is the Mazda 3.
After that, they interviewed Laurence and Emilia Fox, to be honest, I don't really know them and I have never seen them acting, so I didn't see them this funny. But from a British perspective, I think they found those guests quite funny.
The last part of the episode is Chris trying to prove or show that the new Renault Megane R.S Trophy-R is better than a Porsche and a Lamborghini.
This Renault is refined to perfection, they thought about everything to save weight, there is no hybrid system and a traditional gearbox, this will surely attract many hot hatchbacks lovers. But it doesn't come cheap though, it costs 72 000 pounds, for this figure it seems way too much for a hot hatch. As Chris is reviewing the Renault, Freddie shows up with new Porsche Cayman GT4 which cost the same as the Renault. Soon after, Paddy tags along with a second-hand Lamborghini Gallardo for 70 000 pounds. And by now, of course, you could guess what comes next. A drag race. The Lambo won. What followed was a lap that Chris made the layout of it and the Megane won. Finally, each one posted his car on social media and Freddie got the most likes. It wasn't really exciting what they did, pretty basic stuff and this social media thing, in my opinion, was not necessary. I hope Harris and Flintoff will feature the Baja race next year with a proper car.
