Today I am going to talk about top gear.
The reason I watch top gear is because of my passion for cars. Now, unlike Chris Harris, I won't be reviewing cars but I will be reviewing the series.
As always, the first episode of a new series begins with a small montage of what we will see in the upcoming weeks. And, to summarize it, it's going to be cool.
After that, the producers challenged the hosts to get a convertible for £600 rather than spending money on vacation. While watching it, I said woah how can that be possible. Because in my country you wouldn't find such cheap cars, you'll find worse for more. Back to our main discussion, Chris bought a Mercedes SLK 230, Paddy got a Ford Escort Calypso and Andrew aka Freddie got a Chrysler LeBaron.
The first challenge was how will these cars fare against the stig with a V8 Ford Mustang but in real-life situations. They got vans, tractors, even a Morgan to simulate real-life road conditions. The Mercedes was the quickest, then was the Ford and unfortunately, the Chrysler didn't even make as it suffered a tire puncture. Ultimately, all cars were beaten by the Mustang.
The second challenge was a lap around a motocross track with a synthetic kind of sweat being sprayed at them. Now here all hosts got extremely wet after sprayed by 15L of "fake sweat". To the surprise, Paddy was the fastest then Chris then Andrew.
Before continuing on this journey, Chris Harris reviewed the all-new Ariel Atom 4, which was, in short, better than its predecessor in terms of cornering. The new Atom would no longer understeer when going through a corner. On top of that, it has an astonishing acceleration, 0-60mph in just 2.8 seconds. Its price stands at around £40 000, which quite expensive but for the speed, you're getting it's quite the bargain.
Back to the cheap convertibles, where now we got to the third challenge which was to test the cars' agility by golfing at them. The winner will be determined by how many golf balls will be in the car. Each host had a strange way of protecting himself against the golf balls. Andrew wore a hockey outfit, Paddy wore a medieval armor suit and Chris an inflatable T-Rex. All three cars took a hell of a beating, doors dented, windows smashed, you name it. Paddy went on to win this challenge too. It was hilarious, especially when the hosts are shooting or throwing the ball at their mate.
Now for the fourth and final challenge, they were to pass a tide which was filling up with water and the last to arrive would be the winner. Scared of his car to cut him out, Paddy went the first before the water level rose too much. After a little bit, Chris and Andrew also went. But it was too late, the Mercedes barely survived a few meters, then the Chrysler had to push the Mercedes until the LeBaron also cut out. Therefore, the only one that made it was the Ford.
In the last segment of the episode, Chris wanted to find a cheaper way to get a faster acceleration than the Ariel Atom 4. And in trying so, he wanted someone else to try it because he was too scared to do it himself. So, Andrew stepped in. To successfully complete this task, Chriss opted to choose an old Rover Metro which was just enough to get from 0-60mph in 2.7 seconds. In addition, they needed a huge crane and massive dam which was about 540ft and a team of 50 engineers to make sure that this experiment doesn't go south. It was so scary, to be honest, I don't know how Andrew even did it. And just before doing it he took a dab at former top gear host Jeremy Clarkson saying that he'd like seeing him doing this stunt.
So, all in all, it was a very good episode, entertaining, almost non stop laughing.
