"It's Alive! It's Alive!" Since the beginning, there has been fright. Warped untreated graves, bulging eyes of grave robbers, manic desire to create life. The tension of a possible groundbreaking scientific discovery is very intense and the story is told in a short time, during a few days. No shot seems to be extra and everything fits together. The dynamic camera, sometimes shaking to create unease, offers blurred margins, but interiors are elaborated in detail. A monster with a dull expression and ominous eyes looks like an insidious criminal. Frankenstein's creation is fair, he makes no difference in his victims in terms of sex or age. Both actors, Colin Clive as scientist Frankenstein and Boris Karloff as his creation are doing their job perfectly. The film depicts violence more than Dracula from the same year, not just a hint. The characters know what they are facing from the beginning, so it is a pity to write carelessness to their intelligence, weak instinct for self-preservation and squeaking logic. The scene of marching through a shining city with the first innocent victim in the hands during a fading fun has its great appeal. Even after years, the film does not sound ridiculous and leaves an indelible mark behind. Who wants a more psychological level, the existential drama of Frankenstein and his monster is greatly portrayed in the Victorian horror series Penny Dreadful.

Conclusion: 8/10. Pros: dark atmosphere, tense, camera, Frankenstein's monster. Cons: no logic in characters, who know what problem they handle.
