Mortegard: Tokenized Gold Explained

Gold is just one of the resources you can use to build your Mortegard empire. Here we’ll review what in the game requires gold, its place in the in-game economy, and which developments produce gold in order to guide you toward a strong foundation for your kingdom.

The Mortegard Kingdom Builder is a blockchain game operating on Polygon Network. Pulling inspiration from classic fantasy PC adventures of yesteryear, Mortegard allows players to rule over an ever-expanding kingdom of castles, courtiers, and developments such as mines, temples, taverns and more! Using their NFT castle cards, players are able to acquire land and develop a largely autonomous kingdom, which, depending on their developments,  produces five different tokenized resources to be used as the ruler desires.

The following developments use gold in their crafting recipe:

Hunting Grounds, Mineral Veins, Farmlands, Enchanted Forests, Lumber Mills, Mineshafts, Petrified Forests, Logging Camps, Mining Encampments, Monasteries and Prayer Sites.

When you first start your kingdom, assuming you haven't purchased any resources on UniSwap, your only source of gold will be your castle itself. Keep in mind each castle produces a different combination of base resources, and not all castles produce every resource! To increase your gold output the main development path, excepting buying developments from other players, is to create Hamlets.

Each Hamlet will produce a single gold per server cycle(8 hours), or 3 gold per day. The main advantage of hamlets is that they are cheap to produce, costing only 10 food and 5 iron. Once the basics of your economy have been established, however, you will want to invest in higher production tiles!

Villages possess the greatest gold output at the time of this article, granting 2.5 gold per cycle, or 7.5 gold per day. Upgraded from the hamlet, the village tile includes additional buildings and it is clear that the village has had quite a bit more care put into it by its denizens. This is far from the only source of gold production, however:

Another direct upgrade from the Hamlet, The Logging Encampment is a cosy settlement surrounded by woods, populated by those who trade in lumber for their living, eking out a tiring but comfortable livelihood. While they only produce 1 gold, like Hamlets, they also produce 1 wood per cycle.

The other alternative upgrade path for the hamlet is the Mining Community. Iron is drawn from the hills surrounding this settlement, and then carted off for use in further kingdom development. While it isn't as efficient as the Village in terms of overall production, it makes up for this with its diversified output.

Taverns serve as rest houses for travelers and watering holes for locals. These profitable roles mean they are able to serve your kingdom in the form of a gold tax on its patrons, relieving them of their gold in exchange for full bellies and heavy heads. Tavern owners also make a craft in the production of food as a means of increasing their own profit, but some of that makes its way into their rulers' stores too.

Temples are holy sites – but not too holy to see the practicality in the intelligent application of gold. Utilizing a collection plate and tongues as crafty as those of the most seasoned merchants, the priests of the temple make a very comfortable living from pledges. Sure, they might keep a little for a rainy day, but as long as some of that finds itself in the kingdoms' coffers, all is well.

These are the gold producing developments presently in the Kingdom Building client, ready to be built and utilized now. There are a great deal more developments planned for the future, both to be earned through gameplay mechanics, and built from reinvestment of your resources.

Pledge your excess gold to Story Events, lock it in vaults to be invested in opportunities as they arise, trade it for other resources, or simply sell it on UniSwap for MATIC.
