Crypto Longshots and Altseason

Crypto Longshots and Altseason

Has Altseason arrived? NO!

I've noticed that whenever alts bounce every dipshill with a Youtube channel or following elsewhere immediately declares the arrival of Altseason. Of course, these bumps in alts usually happen after Bitcoin has left them in the dust and then gone sideways for a few days. Afterwards, alts will dump when BTC dumps and then do nothing when BTC pumps again. As such, people who buy alts on the advice of these dipshills usually take very significant losses, at least in the short term. As happens so often in cryptoland, dreams of Lambos and Gulfstreams, i.e. the optimistic desire for Altseason to arrive, lead to dellusions and optimistic destruction. However, it's not all bad news. Regardless of a likely retrace for BTC, another bullrun seems more probable every day, and therefore so does an eventual Altseason, which will look a lot more like 30x than 30%.

When will Altseason arrive? IDK and YDK!

Anybody who claims to know this with any precision should be regarded with extreem caution. However, if we understand that Altseason is fundamentally driven by new retail money entering the market in the midst of a BTC bullrun, it is possible to outline some general predictions. We can learn a few things going back in history by looking at the graphs, and by "looking" I mean get off your lazy ass and look that shit up yourself. I'm just here to write.
In the last bullrun, there were two Altseasons, one in early 2017 and the other in early 2018. The second one was pretty predictable. There was a clearly unsustainable parabolic move in BTC that shocked everyone. Within a few weeks, dumb money finally understood that moving back above 20k was unlikely, and so went looking for the next shinny object to make it rich. Hence, Altseason. The first Altseason didn't really have such a clear signal preceding it. It started in Q1 of 2017 with the higher capitalization Alts when BTC wasn't doing anything other than chilling well above the previous all time high. Only later did the fairly typical retrace to the 100 moving average help pump the lower capitalization coins and tokens, but that probably would have happened without any BTC retrace. It's almost as if the market just got bored with BTC and everyone just decided to buy other things as a distraction.
Graphwise, 2020 wasn't identical to 2016, but it's been similar enough to make a speculation that Altseason 1.0 will start in Q1 2021 and end in Q2 2021 reasonable enough. Keep in mind, this isn't a pattern that is written in the stars. There is no guarantee that there will even be two Altseason this time. It might happen just once, or maybe it will happen ten times. The point is that as long as you buy at a reasonably low price and are prepared to hold for Altseason you will do well.

How will I sell the top? YOU WON'T!

However, it's not like you need to. When Altseason does arrive, it will will generally, emphasis on generally, play out in the following pattern. Higher cap alts will cook off first and lower caps later. As the flood of dumb money proceeds, you can expect the wave on the chart to increase in amplitude and decrease in wavelength, i.e. the bounce will become shorter, sharper and higher. This can be seen at play even now. While BTC hovers around its all time high, the No. 2 cypto, Etherium, is around 50% of its all time high. Moving down the line, something like Dash, No. 28 at the time of writting, is well under 90% of its all time high. So, if, like me, you're holding some Dash and wondering if it will ever reach previous ATH, you can look to higher cap coins like Etherium, Litecoin, EOS and Monero. If those higher cap coins fall short of their ATH when Alteson 1.0 hits, don't hold out for the ATH and just make an educated guess about the levels you can reasonably expect and vice versa. In this way, the lower cap alts, though risky, at least afford you some forewarning of what might happen.

My longshot for Altseason - Icon (ICX)

You might choose something else for you're longshot and that's fine. I've learned by hard knocks that sometimes an arbitrary decision is just as good as a well considered decision here in cryptoland. That being said, my decision here isn't entirely arbitrary. I have the following four reasons I like it:

1) It has any reason to exist. Look, I won't lecture you on the technicals because I'm not the best suited for it. I have a liberal arts background and cheated on my homework in the 3rd grade, permanently robbing me of the ability to multiply by eight. I'd advise you to read up on their asserted purpose of hyperconectivity before making any decision. Remember, Altseason is driven by hype and dumb money, so what the shit actually does is wat less important to its performance than many would lead you to believe, but having some fundamental merrit stops these low cap alts from just dying.
2) It's low cap, but not too low cap. As of writing, ICX sits at No. 63 with a market cap of about $240 million. That's low enough for a really short, really high burst in Altseason, but not so low that it's a complete shitcoin.
3) It's down 99%, or at least it was when I bought it at $.15 back in December 2019. Now it's a bit higher at about $.40. Look, in December 2019, I really didn't think we'd see that price again, but I was wrong and we did, so I just bought some more during corona crash. If you want to buy some, I might advise you to do it during BTC's next retrace to the 100 day average or thereabouts, but I really can't give you a specific number it could crash to.
4) It's got deep pockets and establishment in a niche market. It's native too and been implemented successfully in South Korea, a market with high adoption. That and significant backing make it more likely to survive an extended crypto winter if that turns out to be the case
So, there it is.

Conclusion:

When the avalanche of dumb money comes looking for a shinny new toy, It'll be a good day for you if you're already holding it.  I was certified as a financial advisor by your Lord and savior Jesus H. Christ. You would be a fool not to remortgage your home, empty your savings, sell a kidney and invest all of the money on the advice of an author who has a strong math allergy. GOOD DAY TO YOU!
