Boeing, the world's largest aircraft manufacturer, is collaborating with multinational Honeywell as announced at the Hyperledger Global Forum 2020 in Arizona. The objective will be to track and sell US$ 1 billion worth of aircraft components using blockchain technology. This will all be made possible through the Honeywell GoDirect blockchain platform.
Lisa Butters, the CEO of Honeywell, confirmed that Boeing had added parts they no longer need directly to the GoDirect platform last weekend. Butters added that less than 3% of the US$ 4 billion in second-hand space items are sold online each year and this will increase even more in the coming years.
Every aircraft part, which is sold and resold several times upon each parts life cycle, has its own documentation which must be transferred to the new owner after sale. The transfer of such documents are prone to forgery and other insecurities which is why the secure blockchain which GoDirect provides is the right choice for Boeing. GoDirect provides a secure digital transfer of the documents and all data transfers are registered on the blockchain while preventing and kind of data falsification through an array of techniques. In addition, the ledger is transparent and visible to everyone.
In the first year, GoDirect Trade had realized around US$ 7 million in sales and that figure is expected to go up to US$ 25 million by the end of 2020. GoDirect expect tremendous growth the coming two years somewhere near the billion figure. There are currently 6,500 registered GoDirect users representing 2,400 different companies.
