Cold War II

I do not completely agree with the point that enforcing a no-fly zone over Ukraine would likely lead to nuclear war.

However, I understand why it is that Biden or any other leader of a major power cannot risk escalation of hostilities. The Cold War might not sound too bad if you only focus on the point that the US and USSR managed to avoid directly fighting with each other.

But it was bad, it was bad because many smaller nations were forced to suffer while the US and its allies were forced to watch. One of the fortunate differences between Cold War I and Cold War II is the establishment of globalization and the proliferation of communication technology. This provides nation states with new and less violent means to attack other nations and help bring about the end of physical hostilities.

In this I believe Western democracies are excelling. Unfortunately for you and me this means that gas prices are likely to increase along with the cost of a bunch of other commodities. I understand that I am in a privileged position, but I think it is fair to say that this is a small price to pay for avoiding NATO involvement in a conflict which could lead to the world ending in nuclear fire.

The good news: you do not have to feel powerless. Read how you can help by viewing the attached images: https://imgur.com/a/JdmOwCa
