Top 3 Reasons I'm Still HODLing My Bitcoin

By LocoSocioCrypto | LocoSocioCrypto | 13 Jul 2022

I'll be honest with you - I am one of those 'new' crypto users who got started near the peak of this most recent bull run. As such, I can say with absolute confidence that at this point in time, crypto has not looked on paper to be a good investment for me.

So why then am I 100% confident in HODLing and even continuing to accumulate my stacks? Here are the 3 main reasons:

1. Crypto provides me with diversification in an uncertain world

I am not someone who has invested 100% of my net worth into crypto. I've invested what I am comfortable losing, therefore this recent dip has not caused me any great anxiety or stress. I also hold some of my net worth in (*GASP*) FIAT currency, as well as other traditional financial assets. However, I continue to buy and accumulate crypto during this bear run because it will provide me with excellent diversification going forward.

However, this diversification does not mean I am buying hundreds of different cryptocurrencies in my bag. 90%+ of my crypto portfolio continues to be a mix of Bitcoin and Ethereum, with alts currently making up less than 5% of my total portfolio value. I do not see this strategy changing at all over the next little while.

2. I don't trust 3rd parties

I love going to see sports live in person. You know what I don't love? Giving 15% of my total purchase to TicketMaster for brokering my transaction.

And don't we all love having to be approved by a bank to transfer our own money - sometimes with daily limits - and over the course of 2-5 business days too? I think not.

3rd parties in all forms, be it banks or corporations, have way too much power in society in my opinion. I love the fact that crypto technology works towards eliminating the need for 3rd parties through their protocols. I can send my Bitcoin when I want, to who I want, with no limits as to how much I can send either.

I also see the benefit in eliminating 3rd party necessity across multiple sectors. Smart contracts running on the Ethereum network can be shared directly, anonymously and securely between patient and doctor. Voting systems, De-Fi, and data storage are other industries which can be enormously improved by operating on smart contract technology as well.

3. I believe in the technology

Since investing in Bitcoin and crypto, I have made it a regular habit to continually educate myself about the technology and to keep afloat of the industry as best I can. The more I discover and learn about Bitcoin and Ethereum, the more I believe that its technology will play a huge role in society going forward.

For anyone who has not read The Bitcoin Standard by Saifedean Ammous, I would highly suggest it as a good place to start. Of course, following posts on Publish0x continues to be a main way I stay connected. Other great resources I use include Reddit subs and CoinMarketCap.

Ultimately, I see Bitcoin and Ethereum and crypto in general being a big part of the world going forward. I'm excited to hold arguably the only fully deflationary and sound money ever created. I'm excited to be a part of a network in Ethereum that might single handedly change the world (and arguably already has). So even though my portfolio may be down in the near term, I will continue to think long term.
