Hit and Run on my Wifes car-and How I catched that Prick

In December 2017 some Guy rammed my Wifes car off the street and drove away.

I got to the place only 5 Minutes after the accident because we both were on our way to Work, luckily she wasn't hurt seriously but she bumped her head on the Window of the cars door and her car was a mess, almost the whole left side of the car was damaged and the front bumper was Destroyed too because she was pushed against a Curbstone. We called the Police right away but they took their time and told us that the chances to get the Guy are very low.

She thought that she was rammed by a Silver Colored Skoda Octavia and remembered the first 3 Letters of his Licence-plate,in our Country we only use 2 Letters for the first digits so it was clear that the Guy was from a foreign Country. Also he drove to the Highway which has Camera Surveillance so I went to the Police and told them to look at the footage from the surveillance cam but they send me away telling me that they only use the surveillance on bigger crimes and Privacy Protection is Crime Protection. The Cars Damage was big and the car Insurance pays only for the Damage that is done by its client,so No Culprit means you have to Pay the Repair-bill yourself.

Since my wife was very Desperate about the high bill and the cops were no help at all, I tried to catch that SOB on my own.

First i Googled the 3 Inits of his Licence-plate and found out that he was from Poland than I used Google Maps to see how far the place was away from the place the accident happened (-It was 6 hours 44 minutes away),also my wife told me that she had seen the car before on her way to Work.So i was thinking that the guy was probably on his way to work too because of the Accidents Time(in the Morning)and the fact that she had seen that car before.

I started google searches for places with connections to Poland in my City and the Surrounding Area of it, also i thought to myself if he is from Poland than hes probably an Auxiliary Worker so i googled also for construction company's that are not  to far away from the accident site and their dorms. There where 3 dorms in the Area ,the First one was near the place my Parents live at but the licence plates there where mostly Hungarian,Romanian and Slovenian.

The Second one was the one that lead me to the Culprit ,on my way there i saw a car with a Polish Licence-plate and i followed it.It drove to the dorm and there where a lot of cars with Polish Licence-plates around  there.

My Wife had a Blue Mazda back then and there was a Silver Colored Audi A4 at that place with damage on the right Car side  and Blue Colored crush marks  on it that were fitting the marks on my wifes car. That was the moment when I realized that my Wife had it confused when she was Hit and the Skoda was actually a Audi. Both cars look very similar and are using the same frame since Audi and Skoda are connected ,i jumped out of my Car and took pics of the Audi with my Phone to send them to my Wife. She Recognized the Car on the Pictures and i drove right to the next Police Station to tell them i found the car.

The cops went back to the Dorm with me and inspected the Car ,the Owner was not there but they questioned his attendant  Co-Workers and told them to tell him that he needs to visit the Police Station to Answer some Questions, also since they finally knew his License Plate they also had his personal data from his Insurance Company. The Cops told me later that he admitted the accident but he tried to lie his way out of it.He told them that he was hit by my wife's car and blamed here for the accident, of course his Story made no sense and he tried to change it again later since many things did not add up.

I think he was probably Drunk when he hit her car or maybe he simply lost control on the icy Winter road  or fell asleep for a second and presumably he was trying to avoid his Insurance to go up, I don´t really know whatever reason he had to run but my Wife was really happy that she did not had to pay the bill and he probably had to pay some penalty for the run.

The moral of the whole Story is - Never Give Up.
