How to deal with a stuck transaction ?

Gas price are very high and sometime you want to save some ETH, and you reduce the gas price. But if you are too stingy your transaction can be stucked for hours or even days. And you can miss the trade of the year ! If you use Metamask there is a very easy way to deal and remove a stucked transaction.

How to do:

If you don't use Brave, please do and thanks me later. If you use Brave: 1/ Go to your(s) wallet(s) 234910ee56861d4fe396ee592fb55f673e9258f3c027e8acdf39cfbf596d9c85.png

2/ Go to the colored icon -> Settings

3/ Then go to Advanced Settings -> Customize transaction nonce -> Turn on 693c04f7a84c9ced7754c8068b05bed6a569290d8b1557a550736ee1363bcd73.png

Now you have more control and you will be able to manually assign the nonce.

4/ Look at oldest stuck pending txn # to cancel

5/ To drop/replace the stuck transaction it's super easy. You just have to send to your current wallet a new transaction for 0 ETH with the same nonce (txn #) but with higher gas price

How to do:

6/ Click Send

7/ Input 0 ETH

8/ Paste your wallet address

9/ Set Gas Price (Gwei) higher than the FAST price on. You can even go to Advanced option (red rectangle) to set up gas price manually. Usually Fast gas price are accurate. And the end of this article I'll tell you how to know gas price at the time of your transaction.

10/ Here we go. This is the crucial step ! Paste the number of the stuck transaction in "Custom Nonce".
exemple: on step 4/ the highlighted nonce number was 92

11/ Press confirm and wait (it should be fast)

Note:

You'll lose the gas fees of the stucked transaction. And you will also pay the gas fees of the new transaction. But if for exemple you send 100 ETH the first time, don't worry you won't lose those ETH.

Also keep in mind that transaction process in order of nonce (low to high). So if you have a stuck transaction, all transactions you did after won't be executed until the slow/stucked one is done.
