I don't know if you noticed, but FB has transitioned from a social media app, to an events/help/support app.

No one posts on FB anymore, no one cares (figures of speech, obviously I don't mean literally 'no one') but, interestingly, it's a really good app for events and for help/support.

I travel a lot, and I joined a million groups for expats in Paris/London/Dubai/what-have-you, and it's truly useful, you get real-world tips you can't find on your country's travel advisory website.

BUT.

I travel a lot, and I also travel alone a lot. I like it that way. I like meeting people when I'm travelling.

Which is great. But.

Because I travel alone most of the time, I joined a lot of groups for SOLO Travellers... and they're absolutely ridiculous.

Genuinely.

Every post features either a guy with a nice white smile and six pack abs, or a girl showcasing her bikini body. It doesn't look like they're looking for travel tips or companions, they're looking for s*x.

And so many of these people, assuming at least some of these posts are genuine and not fake, are really good-looking people.

I'm an average-looking person but, without wishing to sound boastful, I don't really have a problem finding people to hang out with without having to resort to turning an effing FB group for travellers into a dating app. So why can't they? Are they that dumb that being good-looking isn't enough to help them? I don't think so.

It's sad. It seems so many of us, including myself sometimes, are so lost and alone.
