The other day I caught up with a friend after a while.

"How's work? Still writing?" he asked.

"Yep," I said.

"So what do you think about AI?" he asked back.

This is a recurring thing. When I tell people I write for a living they always mention AI.

That is not surprising, but what is surprising is their tone.

There's a glare in their eyes sometimes. Like a sneer, like they're looking for a 'gotcha' moment. Like they want people to lose their jobs to AI.

I'm saying this because I've seen different variations of this conversation a million times. Sometimes I'm the protagonist of this conversation, and sometimes I'm a witness.

But the 'ah! gotcha' moment is often present.

I wonder why.

But who knows, maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm reading too much into this.
