Hail Mary

Hail Mary

English is a great language for a variety of reasons, one of which is the fact it has so many quirky expressions you can use.

As I'm writing, I'm about to send a Hail Mary text - not gonna say what it's for, but it's a Hail Mary, it either works or it doesn't, and if it doesn't, it's over.

The expression comes from American football.

A Hail Mary pass is (ironically typically unsuccessful) a desperate, last-second pass to try and get something out of the game.

But the expression soon evolved and can now be used for anything.

A Hail Mary move, a Hail Mary attempt, a Hail Mary.

So this is my Hail Mary today, wish me luck.
