Today, at Washington, D.C., in January 6, 2021, several Trump supporters began the March to Save America to protest the 2020 general election results. The protesting escalated into violence with law enforcement, effectively making it more of a riot. A few hours ago of this post, the Trump supporters breached the Capitol, bypassing the security fencing and the police. Several lawmakers have come out and denounced the violence, including the non-establishment GOP legislatures like Rand Paul.
I'm going to make this clear. The Trump supporters chose the wrong way to protest the election results and this is coming from someone who voted for Trump on election day. You absolutely cannot (rightfully) criticize ANTIFA and BLM for their rioting and violence, and proceed to commit similar acts justifiably. That is double standards. The March to Save America was a great opportunity to demonstrate how the Trump supporters are not like their adversaries and they failed.
It is a huge shame, too, as I am with them in terms of finding the election results suspicious, particularly with states like Georgia, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Arizona. I am of the belief that there were multiple instances of improbable anomalies and irregularities, and election reform is badly needed. The mail-in voting is a disaster that should not be repeated. Heck, I received ballots from 2 different states. Seeing the vote counting suddenly stop at 11PM only to witness a massive dump at around 2AM rubs me the wrong way. However, even though our concerns are mutual, I wholly disagree with the Trump supporters' actions.
Today's violence and rioting have likely destroyed any opportunity to address this by virtue of guilt by association. For the next week or so, everyone will be focusing more on what has happened in D.C. as concerns of election fraud will be pushed to the wayside. Not only that, but the consequences may also entail the prolonging of the establishment GOP as the party will try to dissociate from the Trump coalition, depriving the Republican Party of its badly needed reform.
