Introduction
Approximately two weeks ago, I wrote an article about LBRY, Inc. launching the Odysee mobile app on iOS. From my experience, the app worked very well, and I greatly appreciate how snappy and lightweight it is. Recently, LBRY, Inc. has released v. 0.2.2 on the app store. The release notes state as follows:
- New content sources
- Support for picture-in-picture video playback
- Slime button should no longer be blurry
- Several bug fixes and improvements
Of the bunch, picture-in-picture video playback is the most significant addition. So, how well does it work?
Picture-In-Picture Review
You can locate the picture-in-picture button on the top left corner of the video player next to the fullscreen button. Simply touch the button and the app will display a smaller version of the video. You can move the video player to any of the four corners of your iPhone.

Under picture-in-picture mode, you can browse for other videos on the Odysee app. If you don't need to watch the video and just want to listen to it, you can hide the video player by swiping it left or right.

I also tried the functionality out while browsing on Brave and it worked without issues. Switching from portrait to landscape mode worked without any hiccups either.

Overall, I was able to test out picture-in-picture in a variety of situations and did not run into any bugs or glitches. Not yet, at least. The flaws that I mentioned from my previous post are still there and hopefully, LBRY, Inc. will gradually implement those improvements.
If there is one feature that I would like for LBRY, Inc. to add, it would definitely be audio playback when the smartphone's screen is off. This functionality is available on the YouTube app, BUT you have to pay for YouTube Premium in order to take advantage of it. Absolutely no thanks. If the Odysee app allows for background playback and I don't need to pay a single cent, then that would be a huge win for the decentralized platform.
