The French central bank has announced that it has successfully completed the first test of the digital Euro.

According to the announcement of the Bank of France dated May 20, France was the first country to successfully test digital Euro.

On May 14, the bank stated that it was testing the sale of securities for the central bank digital currency (CBDC) and gave the signals of a more robust test.

Focuses on wholesale rather than retail
Although the bank's announcement did not provide much detail, it was stated that the current pilot program focused on wholesale rather than retail use of digital Euro. Retail CBDCs will be able to operate with applications such as Apple Pay for daily consumers.

Wholesale CBDCs will be covered by banks and corporate players.

According to today's announcement, the bank will run similar tests on files received as part of the same initiative in the coming weeks.

France and digital Euro studies
The Bank of France is especially known for its active digital development of the euro. After the UK's departure, France will be the second largest economy in the Eurozone after Germany.
