I was watching a lecture on YouTube through Invidious that popped up on my feed searching for something completely different. That lecture was about accent reduction. After some time watching it, I got an idea. The universities with which these lectures belong, why don't they post these videos on a blockchain platform supporting crypto? I thought it could be a great idea especially in countries like like America and even Australia for example where tuition fees are skyrocketed to the maximum. That could alleviate the cost for some students who cannot afford a hundred thousand dollars in debt. Now that I am thinking about it, it would revolutionize on site education. We have the option of integrating crypto into it but what is the best way of doing so. These questions need to be tackled by teachers, researchers ,anyone involved in the field and yes even janitors should have a say.
I also ask myself the question why are universities acting like business more than educational places. Is it a viable option to rethink how schools and universities are being funded? I guess Ivy leagues are excluded from this concept because their reputation could disappear overnight and they might not like. Also I still do not get why they are called Ivy leagues, it reminds me of Poison Ivy. Back to the subject matter here. Well why are not we remodelling universities? Most of these lectures are a decade old. The revenue from these videos could help with so much such as needed tech in classrooms and amphitheathers, equipment, etc.. Is it too soon to think that the role of universities might change overtime, adapt to the students' needs instead of forcing the students to adapt to their old ways of doing it? It also questions the content of materials. Are they getting revisited? When I was in high school, I realised my way of learning was really different from what the system provided. It led me to slowly but surely unschool myself. But a university is about loads of rooms which serve the purpose of literally giving space to students to explore their learning processes. Think of theater students , they learn the theory and the technicality of body movements and emotion transmission etc but they literally use space too. It was thought as "if you don't have enough room at home to think ,experiment therefore act on your knowledge then come to us we will provide the physical space you need eventually with teachers and materials to help guide your learning progress". I feel like both elements are now being neglected. It is about validating credits. What is making me think about it is the politics behind education in general. Are universities a way to support a political party? Are the funds allocated for a section depends on the types of messages being vehicled. Has education become a weapon against humanity instead of favouring its development? A silly lecture about how to practice listening to enrich your pronouncation led me to write this piece. At university students write thesis but do they actually think through life or do they produce some work because they need to be graded at the end of it. Education has made people robots for the past century and today there is fearmonging concerning robots overtaking humans jobs. I am writing this post from a robot , I do not let the robot write it for me. We do need to use technology to lower the load of meaningless and repetitive tasks so that people can focus more on doing meaningful tasks. That was supposed to be the goal of industrializing the economy but we see it has gone South because not so great decisions led it in the wrong direction. What is disheartening is that some people love folding clothes for example and because it is meaningful to them, they want to keep their work. Then in the media we read about the monetary loss more often than the rest. If I hear somebody say I do not want to lose my job, I do not know if they are talking about the monetary gain or the joy they get from doing the work? Because sometimes culturally it has not been made clear , I end up being confused. Are we knowingly being manipulated ? Universities are playing ground for young adults to see what they want and do not want to do with their lives, it is not about getting a diploma but knowing that they like doing certain types of activities they would later turn into a revenue stream. It may be a wasted attempt at comprehending it better but this could be our future in the next ten years.
