Hello, everyone!
With censorship and hypocrisy becoming more and more prevalent in the mainstream social networks (Trump Banning Of TikTok) (Twitter Backdoor Exposed) (YouTube Ban Of Altcoin Daily) it appears more and more necessary to join a decentralized platform. There are a variety of options, including this very site, to have true ownership of your content as well as be compensated for viewing and engaging with others. I'd like to share some of the options I've come across that are functional. I am not sponsored by any of these, and other than this site, do not use any of them daily. I have registered and used them all to confirm their bare-bones legitimacy, and hope all of you do the same if they interest you!
Publish0x
I'm opening with this site, as it has been around since Dec. 2018 and has gone through improvements and changes. One thing many platforms have issues with is stability. The blockchain gets forked, the private key isn't explained clearly for non-crypto users and is lost, scaling causes fees to get too high, on and on. 0x protocol allows for high TPS and has hosted the data on this site excellently. It feels very much like a traditional social media/opinion news that allows for compensation, rather than an alpha project you expect to have growing pains with. Publish0x allows compensation in multiple ways including: Tipping, commenting, and posting. Tipping is nice because it shows different levels of engagement with certain content, and you can get a small kickback yourself. I have my default ratio to 90/10 with 90 being content creator, 10 being for me. If I see brand new users or content I particularly enjoy, I do 100% to creator. While comments don't directly provide rewards, the engagement and potential new followers leads to secondary compensation, after all the comments section is meant to be an open and free discussion on the content above. The posting compensation is excellent, posting content that adheres to the rules and is organic can lead to pennies a day, which quickly turns into dimes and quarters with a small amount of support and engagement. It doesn't sound like much, but how much does twitter pay you to post?
Twetch
Speaking of Twitter, one alternative that's actively working to fill the same role of short concise thoughts and link sharing is Twetch. They're essentially a twitter-like service that's built upon a blockchain to ensure content is saved and payments can be processed directly through the service rather than needing 3rd parties like PayPal to get involved. The interface is sleek and the mission is clear, two things which will help for user growth. They've made small attempts to get celebrities on board, but appear to be going for more of a grass roots campaign lately. You can follow them on Twitter and DM them to prove you're a human (or a higher level script) and get an access key to be among the early adopters.
LBRY.TV
LBRY is an entire protocol that allows for users to post content by spending their in-site currency for LBC. The ecosystem is predicated on "skin in the game," theory which means people will take it more seriously if posting requires a cost. It is functional and improving, but the built in cost of needing your first post to do well or pay money to get more LBC, ends up being fairly prohibitive for anyone looking to strictly earn. I am looking for smaller amounts of guaranteed income from quality content creation and curation, not invest in my articles on a per article basis. If you are already an established writer, it may be an excellent service for you!
Dlive.tv
A twitch competitor that seeks to allow much more direct compensation options for content creators, as well as earning for potential for viewers. It is an improvingly stable platform that already has a healthy user base. I personally use it for my crypto news streams and use Twitch for the card games I play, as even on Twitch the games have very low viewership. It has been very easy to work with as you just set it up as you would any other stream URL and stream key service in OBS. I have found it frequently has errors with restream.io, so if you use the free version of that software, it may run into issues. Still, if you are not already on a streaming service, Dlive is a great place to start and the chat is about 95% less toxic than twitch.
Peakd
Peakd is a decentralized blog service that appears to want to be a blend of prime Tumblr (minus the porn) and article-like posts. I am a big fan of HIVE network and enjoy the services hosted on it (such as Splinterlands) with Peakd being a similar situation. The guidelines are straightforward, the posting interface is fluid, and the community is fairly active if posting about popular topics. If you have not already started a blog somewhere, Peakd is an excellent one to start with as you get small amounts of compensation for every post.
Summary
Each site has its specialty, similar to the mainstream options, but there are options for whatever content you prefer. There's no time like the present to be a part of the future! Decentralization of social media is one of the more important ones to participate in, as free speech is being smothered all over the world, and especially in the USA where we pride ourselves on freedom of speech. As someone who's gone from the first month of Steem to now a daily viewer of content on here, I can say it feels good participating in all the steps along the way and seeing the growth with every update.
I am not sharing affiliate links for any of these sites just as a way to confirm this is not a profit-seeking post, strictly an informative one!
