Week 20 Recap, Web3 Self Study

Week 20 Recap, Web3 Self Study

By Mike Bivens | Journey to Web3 | 29 Jun 2022

As expected this week did end up being less productive than what has been my normal, I have family that came into town and I wanted to put aside the learning and coding to be present with them and focus on the time that I could spend with them. I’m still keeping up with contributing at least something every day in the form of coding but I’m not able to focus on a project for any real length of time.

Despite this, I reached two major milestones; the Solidity & JavaScript Course is completed and I’ve passed my 100-day streak of contributing code on Github!

<usual_enterance> If you're new here I'm creating this blog series as I go from coding newbie to working in web3. I'm creating this to reflect on the technical and non-technical growth and to leave it behind for others who might be interested in how they can follow a similar path. </usual_enterance>

In this week's recap:

  • WAGMI Squad
  • Articles
  • FCC Solidity & JavaScript Course
  • Alchemy's Road to Web3
  • Learn Web3 DAO
  • What's Next?

WAGMI Squad

Actually, very little to report here, the members have all made progress in wrapping up their individual learning goals and some of us have started to form teams for portfolio projects.

Articles

This week I focused reading time on documentation. It feels odd to only say I worked through three materials but these were pretty extensive and I wasn’t too great at actually skimming them. I found myself reading through them more than was necessary right now but there was plenty of value in doing so.

Aave Documentation

OpenZeppelin Documentation

Solidity Documentation

FCC Solidity & Javascript Course

This took up some extensive space in my schedule and brain but it was incredibly worth it. It definitely took at least twice the length of the video to get through it between pausing to figure things out on my own, replaying sections of content to better understand, and just time to process and read through the code again.

It feels really good to actually be able to say I’ve finished this course, it felt more like a boot camp than an actual course and for Patrick Collins to put this out for free was insane. It’s a huge public service and undoubtedly will remain one of the most valuable beginner resources in the web3 space for a long time. I don’t know how anyone could usurp the throne this video will have any time soon.

The question I’m walking away with is ‘wen 64-hour rust course?’

Alchemy's Road to Web3

I actually did not fully finish with Week 8 of this program, I’m hoping I can finish this and Week 9 on Saturday. Most of the code for Week 8 is written but I need finishing touches and to deploy.

Learn Web3 DAO

I started the Sophomore track but wasn’t able to make significant progress through the readings, nor have I started the first coding portion of this content just yet.

What's Next?

Plans changed pretty sharply for this next week, the family visiting me has decided to stay through most of the week now so it’ll be a pretty slow week with my coding time being mostly replaced with family.

What I intend to do with the time available is finish Weeks 8 & 9 of Road to Web3 with Alchemy, and push through as much of the Sophomore track as I can. That’s it, those two items will be the sole focus of my efforts this week aside from continuing article readings.

Journey to Web3

I am using this blog to talk about my experiences from pre-software development boot camp towards entering the Web3 ecosystem. I'll share thoughts and what I'm learning, reflect on the journey, and share informational interviews for others to follow along.
