There is a Battle Brewing For Bitcoin's Future

Nobody wants to admit it, but there could be some very dark days ahead for Bitcoin. Everyone has their sights set on nation-state adoption, Wall Street stampeding into Bitcoin, and most of all, just how high the price of Bitcoin will go.

After all. Many financial “experts” have been declaring that Bitcoin will cause the largest transfer of wealth that the world has seen in recent memory.

And this has blinded Bitcoiners.

The amount of life-changing gains that could soon be on the horizon has distracted them from the danger that is lurking right beside them.

A battle is brewing about the actual Bitcoin protocol and which direction it should be focusing on in the future.

The truth is that this isn’t the 1st time that Bitcoin has faced this kind of battle. About 10 years ago, Bitcoin went through the “Blocksize War.”

During that time, one group wanted to scale Bitcoin so that it could remain cheap and scale to whatever was needed. The other side wanted to be much more conservative with their scaling. Limiting how much the protocol scales and prioritizing as many users as possible to be able to run their own nodes.

Eventually, the more conservative view won out and remained as the Bitcoin we know today, while the 1st group forked into Bitcoin Cash and has quickly faded into obscurity.

Today, we could be in the early stages of another battle for the future of Bitcoin. Something that we all should be taking very seriously, because the “Blocksize War” was so divisive that many thought it would be the death blow to Bitcoin altogether.

The big issue this time around is what should be allowed on the blockchain. One group is arguing that Bitcoin is a free, decentralized blockchain, and you should be able to use it however you want as long as you pay the transaction fees. This is the Bitcoin Core v30.0 group.

However, the other side views Bitcoin as a sacred protocol that should only be used for money-like transactions. They see everything else as simply spamming the network and making it more expensive. They want to go so far as to be able to filter out certain types of transactions. This is the group that wants to use Bitcoin Knots.

Everything changed with the implementation of the SegWit and TapRoot updaters into the Bitcoin protocol. While unintentional at the time, loopholes or workarounds were found that eventually allowed Bitcoin Ordinals (NFTs) to be built and sent on Bitcoin.

This was only the beginning, and since then, the floodgates have been opened.

What was once thought as impossible on Bitcoin has suddenly become possible. And this resulted in development excitement returning to the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Each viewpoint has valid claims, and it is growing more apparent that they won’t be able to come to an agreement or compromise. Resulting in another fork soon on the horizon.

No matter which side of the debate you align with. One thing is certain. The battle for the future of Bitcoin appears to be just beginning. And, it will only grow more intense from here on out.

How about you? Which side of the Bitcoin battle are you on?
