Everyone is Trying to Beat Bitcoin.

Everyone is Trying to Beat Bitcoin.

It’s boring, yet beautiful.

There is a concerning number of crypto investors who have no exposure to Bitcoin in their crypto portfolio, or are significantly underweight.

This is why, in places such as X, YouTube, TikTok, and Reddit, so many seem oblivious to this bull market so far. The reason is simple: since they don’t own Bitcoin, they haven’t personally experienced any of its gains.

However, this is a real problem.

First off, I will start with the elephant in the room.

Unit bias is a real thing. As Bitcoin’s price sits near $120k, and eventually goes far beyond it. This is a problem that will only continue to get worse. Regular investors will look at the price of Bitcoin and feel that it is too expensive. Feeling that they missed their chance.

Instead, they will decide that they can “beat Bitcoin,” or even find the next Bitcoin. It is even more appealing when those coins are just a few cents or dollars. They feel they can “accumulate” much more than if they were to purchase Bitcoin.

In the short term, they may see some success. Altcoin season is still a thing. During that time period, they could see some great gains and even outperform BTC for a bit. But that is sometimes the worst thing that could happen to them.

And then it suddenly ends.

All altcoins trend to zero when compared to Bitcoin.

If you have been in the cryptocurrency market long enough, this is a phrase that you should be very familiar with.

The hard truth is that there isn’t an altcoin that has made a new all-time high against BTC after its first full bull cycle.

During their first cycle, coins come out, are hyped up by VCs and crypto influencers, and often perform very well. Even outperforming Bitcoin. However, there is something about crypto investors always looking for the newest shiny object. This type of philosophy is something that makes new projects easily forgotten as we enter bear markets and eventually reach the next bull market.

For example, let’s look at Cardano. During the last cycle, Cardano (ADA) topped out at nearly $3.10. Yet it is currently just sitting at $0.94. Then we have Polkadot, which went up to nearly $55, currently sitting at $4.00. Polygon (previously MATIC) went up to $2.92 last cycle, but is currently sitting at $0.24. All darlings of the last cycle that are nowhere near their previous highs.

All the while, Bitcoin reached a top last cycle of $69,000, but is currently sitting at nearly $120k. This is a story as old as time in the crypto market. Everything does well during its first bull run, but then trends to zero against Bitcoin over time.

Bitcoin is boring, yet beautiful.

Everyone thinks they need to be a trader, finding the best possible coins that make the largest gains in the shortest period of time.

But there is a vital question that you need to ask yourself.

Do you trust yourself to be able to perfectly time the market, to sell those altcoins for more Bitcoin? The reality is that 99% of crypto investors wouldn’t be able to time it right. Greed is a powerful drug. Once they begin to see their altcoins pumping in price initially, they want even more. However, when its price begins dumping, they are too stubborn to cut their losses and continue riding it downward.

More often than not, people will end up buying high and selling low.

If you cannot time the market perfectly, the best thing you can do is to simply buy Bitcoin. Throughout the years, many of the most successful crypto investors were people who just consistently dollar-cost-averaged into Bitcoin for the long term.

It’s truly that simple.

Bitcoin is the original cryptocurrency, the project that began everything. Because of that, people often view it as dinosaur tech or a boomer project. As I mentioned before, this is an industry where everyone seems to be only interested in the newest shiny objects.

Never forget that the name of the game in the cryptocurrency market is to accumulate as much Bitcoin as you possibly can. Don’t get distracted by all the outside noise. There will soon be a time when Bitcoin completely takes over, and those who have no exposure to Bitcoin will regret it for years.

How about you? Do you invest in altcoins trying to “beat” Bitcoin?
