Nonfungible tokens (NFTs) are hot.
Tom Brady and Terrell Owens, Mark Cuban, and the entertainment industry (see Oscars tribute to movie star Chadwick Boseman) have made NFT proclamations. Some companies have NFTs as part of their business plan, and thus, their stocks present indirect opportunities to diversify your portfolio. Determining which companies are using and advancing NFT technology, which plan to do so, and whether to invest short or long-term is challenging.
Thus, below, I provide 38 stock tickers with NFTs as a central focus, as complementary to business models, or which are confirmed or rumored to have future NFT related plans. I also provide the current price of each (on April 27, 2021). Lastly, I provide three key factors to consider when investing.
Minimize your risk and maximize your gains with NFT stocks - three key factors
Key #1) These stocks can be volatile, understand if the stock is typically being:
A) heavily traded in premarket (before regular stock market hours, e.g. traded 4:00 am to 9:29 a.m. East Coast USA time)
B) day-traded (same-day trading during normal stock market hours of 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., e.g., take a position and exit that position the same day)
C) swing-traded (traded over one to a few days, e.g., take a position and buy Monday and wait to see what happens over a few days, sell on Friday)
D) held longer-term (buy and hold for weeks, months, years, better with long-established trusted companies doing many other things than only NFTs)
E) traded in any combination of the above A through D approaches
Key # 2) Create watchlists on your trading platforms and get to know the metrics
One key metric to watch is the trading volume (e.g., how many shares have been bought or sold) especially when day-trading. Focus on plays that exceed 300,000 shares of daily volume. These are less susceptible to "having the rug suddenly pulled out from underneath you," e.g., when a large investment firm suddenly sells an enormous amount of shares thereby causing an instantaneous price drop. Trading platforms for retail investors have watchlist setups, though functionality, flexibility, and style can vary greatly. Below is a screenshot of one of my watchlists. Know these metrics!
Key # 3) Keep up to date on the news
News releases about these companies are often catalysts for increases (or decreases) in prices. Trading platforms link to news releases. Cross-correlate prior news and prior price action. Did +/- news respectively cause rises or falls in price, or did the opposite occur? How often does the company release news? Are there new executives? Are new and novel products and new partnerships coming? Does the company, or the CEO have a website and/or social media? You will be ahead of the game the better you understand news cycles and you will become increasingly better at predicting related price action.
