Have you ever felt you new a secret that would undoubtedly help someone if they just knew the truth? Obviously, most of us feel this way about blockchain, cryptocurrencies and the future. Like many other people, I want to share this secret with people in my life in hopes they too can benefit from early adoption. I have found it’s not as easy as it sounds!!!!
I want to start with my most recent attempt to lead my older sister down the “rabbit hole” of crypto. I have been into crypto since 2017, but I do remember it when it was brand new to the world because I had that one friend who saw the technology for what it is, of course i was oblivious.
It was April 2020 and I noticed, like many people, that the hard and long bear market of crypto was going back into hibernation and felt an urgency to tell people. I like to say “ I’m not telling you this to get you to invest, I’m telling you this so you can’t get mad at me for knowing this secret and not sharing it with you.”
As I am researching and accumulating cryptos (another story I’ll share later, what happened to my crypto) I can’t help but send random text messages to my sister, planting the seed that I wanted to grow. I’d send links and price changes and some thoughts about the economy and how crypto was going to play a role. There were two things I wanted to avoid this time around (1) listening without taking action(2) taking action at the worst time,FOMO.
I had a plan this time that should avoid these two things and decided to try a different approach than just telling her. So after warming her up to crypto for a month or so an opportunity came up to push her into crypto. Her son was in another state going to college and she had sent him money. I told her I knew of a better easier and cheaper way to send money.
So with the promise of free money, which everyone wants, I was able to walk her through setting up an account on a couple of well known sites that had decent referral rewards. This to me was a huge accomplishment because it was her very first step to getting to know the system of the future and I can take credit as the one who taught her.
After she had the account set up I sent her some crypto that was needed to stake, in order to receive the rewards(free money) I had promised. It would be some time before the rewards would be earned and I didn’t want time to go by without her being involved. Most people look at crypto as a risky investment so I eliminated her risk and gave opportunity for reward. I sent her a little more crypto and said you watch this grow in price and you can keep the profits. I sent what cost me 400$ in crypto.
Timing was great because the wait wasn’t long to see some profits. Ultimately I want her to get to know the industry not just looking at it as an investment opportunity. Profits seem to have a way of getting people excited and wanting to learn more.
Recently my sister has invested more dollars than I spent for the crypto I had her hodl. That 400$ turned into over 800$ in a matter of five months. This plan may have cost me some profits but seemed to be the only way to make it almost impossible to not hear me out and give crypto a chance.
It is funny to me how things have changed. Now it’s her sending me texts about crypto asking questions or just to tell me what she finds interesting. Needless to say, that seed is growing. I have other experiences with family and friends that have not turned out so well and others that are going even better. This one, I count as a huge success and hope that other people will try to go out of their way to get people in their circles involved, one way or another. I recently got off the phone with my sister and reminded her you can’t get mad at me for knowing this secret and not sharing it with you!
