How I got a Zoom call with Trump and an NFT for free

By Messin' With Cryptos | MWC | 7 Jan 2023

Happy New Year’s everyone, I hope everyone has had a restful holiday season. I took a bit of a break from writing over the past weeks, but this doesn’t mean that I stopped dabbling into the world of Crypto’s. In case you yourself had taken a break from Crypto Twitter, one of the more politically controversial things that hit the cryptospace in December was the release of Trump’s collectable trading NFT cards:

Now sold out, if you had bought one of these Trump Digital Trading Cards last month, you would have had the opportunity to buy one of these Polygon NFTs for $99:

If you took note from the graphic above, the current floor price on Opensea is currently sitting at 0.15 $ETH, or approximately $180 dollars (or maybe closer to $160 if you take the -10% creator fee into account). This alone is a pretty good ROI in about a month’s time.

Card Controversy

By no means do I want to be a political commentator, but I figure that it’s also worth mentioning that there has been a lot of controversy surrounding these NFTs, even from Trump’s most staunch supporters. And even disregarding what the NFTs may or may not represent, there’s been even more controversy surrounding the NFT graphics themselves, with some of the images allegedly stolen from adobe and shutterstock:

Love him or hate him, you have to admit that a Trump-branded NFT project wouldn’t be legit if it didn’t have a lot of controversy surrounding it. Trump has given his name and likeness to many different projects, so personally I’m just surprised that this wasn’t done even sooner.

But WAIT, it gets better!

The Trump NFTs serve as sweepstakes entry for a chance to win a multitude of prizes, including:

These “prizes” are going to differ a lot depending on who you talk to, but I think we’re going to see this fan-engagement trend continue a lot.

But WAIT, it gets even better!

Anytime you read the word “sweepstakes,” I habitually read the Terms and Conditions, because in the United States by law there generally needs to be a “No Purchase Necessary” inclusion. In other words, if you’re running a sweepstakes you need to include a way that people can enter without purchasing anything, in this case, entering the sweepstakes without purchasing a trump NFT.

And just like any other sweepstakes, one can enter this one with no purchase necessary as outlined in the Terms and Conditions:

So a few weeks ago I followed the instructions, mailed my index card to the Newark address, and just yesterday I received my Sweepstakes Code in the mail. Entering the code on the website, I found out immediately that I had won my “20 minute group Zoom call with President Trump.”

Now granted, I highly doubt that one would be able to speak or have any type of interaction with Donald Trump during this 20-minute zoom call, (especially because I would be one of 2000 people on the call), but still I’d admit that this is a pretty clever marketing ploy if you’re trying rope in some die-hard fans.

Conclusion:

Would I recommend buying this NFT for $99 dollars? No, especially if you can do a mail-in and get one for the price of two stamps ($0.98). If you’re wanting to get your own “free” NFT you still have time, for according to the alternate method rules, you have until January 18th to mail in your entry.

Have you entered/bought your own Trump NFT? If you have, I’m curious if you were able to profit, or if you’ve been able to win any of the other prizes in the comments below.
