I don't often get starstruck when meeting celebrities, after all, they're just people like you and me. But every once in a while, I meet someone who has such a presence, or a reputation, that it can be a little intimidating. Traci Lords is arguably one of the most beautiful women on the planet, while I look like every third guy at a comic convention.
She also has a very forceful personality, and is known to have very little patience for fools. Yet, even though I knew all of this beforehand, I just had to meet her when she came to town. I had been a big fan of her work with John Waters, and so I chose her character Wanda from Crybaby. I was wanting to explore negative space in a drawing and this would be a perfect chance.
Ms. Lords was happy to receive this drawing, and told me some funny Johnny Depp stories while I stood there pinching myself. It turns out that she's not scary at all, and was warm and generous with her time.
