Every day, the wind, newly blown by the Lithuanian dunes, talks about how fragile and constantly changing the beauty created by nature is. Historical sources say that once upon a time, the dunes on our seaside were much higher and reminiscent of huge mountains of sand, and the sound of their landslides spread to the water a few tens of kilometers away. At present, the dunes are considerably diminished, but still retain their extraordinary beauty, unique vegetation and soothing, romantic atmosphere.
Lithuanians preserve hundreds of legends and legends about the emergence of dunes. One of the most famous legends says that the dunes of the Lithuanian seaside were carried by the hands of the giant girl Neringa who lived there. A beautiful and industrious virgin wanted to marry and announced that she would give her hand and heart to someone who would throw a stone through the lagoon. One strongman was able to accomplish the task, and with that, he greatly annoyed Bangpūtis, who wanted to get Neringa to be his wife. The gusts caused a huge storm that began to take over entire villages. Giant Neringa hurried here. The girl drew a handful of sand from the seabed and poured it on the shores to block the way for the waves. All the people of Neringa will confirm that this is how the magnificent sand dunes were born.
