Police from the region of Northumbria are warning the public in United Kingdom about a scam predominantly targeting PayPal users via email. The emails reported to the Police have seen the bad actors crafting messages pretending to be PayPal's Help Service and offering to help with a suspicious cryptocurrency transaction that has been supposedly done via PayPal.
- Although PayPal is not yet offering any cryptocurrency services in the United Kingdom, the bad actors are perhaps doubling down on the recent announcement from PayPal of the commitment to deliver the crypto services at some point during the new year of 2021.
- According to the reports the mails being sent out are offering to help with canceling a PayPal cryptocurrency transaction and luring the victims into visiting a lookalike website of PayPal's with the aim of stealing PayPal account credentials including credit card information.
- If ever at doubt in regards to an email which supposedly comes from PayPal you can forward the entire email to [email protected] and have their experts look into the legitimacy of the mail as per the following guidelines.
