“Money can’t buy happiness”

“Money often costs too much”

“More money, more problems”

These are just a few of the sayings that stress that being rich doesn’t always mean a person will be satisfied, content, and happy.

We are living in a time where the opportunity to become rich is ripe for the taking. Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and even Ethereum, or even Dogecoin and Shiba Inu have made some investors and traders millionaires!

If you’re investing in crypto, you’ve most likely seen an increase in your own personal financial situation.

After you become rich… then what?

Many people think that with more money, they can then purchase all the things they want that would make them happy. While that’s true to some extent, usually when we purchase anything in life, we get a bit of a high and want to purchase more things. There’s always that feeling of wanting more, wanting the next best thing. When people say that they wish they had more money, that’s usually just another indicator that they want more than what they have of something.

If money bought everything, then why is it that some of the richest people in the world are also known to be some of the unhappiest people in the world? Some have turned to alcohol and drugs, while even some have committed suicide…

There’s a story that always tends to come up in the world of finance that is a great reminder to me. Sometimes it’s told a little differently but the principle remains the same. Have you heard the story of the Fisherman and the Businessman?

There was once a businessman who was sitting by the dock in a small village. As he sat, he saw a fisherman in his boat coming towards the shore, having caught quite few big fish.

The businessman was impressed and asked the fisherman, “How long does it take you to catch so many fish?”

The fisherman replied, “Oh, just a short while.”

“Then why don’t you stay longer at sea and catch even more?” 

“This is enough to feed my whole family,” the fisherman said.

The businessman then asked, “So, what do you do for the rest of the day?”

The fisherman replied, “Well, I usually wake up early in the morning, go out to sea and catch enough fish, then go back and play with my kids. In the afternoon, I take a nap with my wife, and when evening comes, I join my buddies in the village for a drink. We play guitar, sing and dance throughout the night.”

The businessman then said to the fisherman. “I could help you become a more successful person. If you spend more time at sea and catch as many fish as possible, when you have saved enough money, you could buy a bigger boat and catch even more fish. Soon you’ll be able to afford to buy more boats, set up your own company, your own production plant for canned food, and a distribution network. Then you’ll be as rich as me.”

The fisherman asks, “And after that?”

The businessman says, “After that, you can finally retire. Then you can move to a new house by the fishing village, wake up early in the morning, catch a few fish, then return home to play with kids, have a nice afternoon nap with your wife, and when evening comes, you can join your buddies for a drink, play the guitar, sing and dance throughout the night!”

The fisherman was puzzled, “Isn’t that what I’m doing now?”

The fisherman was able to spend time doing the things he loved, doing the things that made him happy because he had accumulated enough fish for the day. When fishing he didn’t get greedy, rather he was content with what he had.

The bull market is underway and we all have the opportunity to make life changing money. Bitcoin and Ethereum are both hitting all time highs, altcoins are pumping and the market sentiment has gone up to Extreme Greed. Take a moment and remember the fisherman’s strategy. Accumulate wealth, don’t get greedy, always take profits, and take the time to sit back and do the things you love to do. Relax and enjoy life.
