"Plug Me In Just Like I was Eddie Harris"

In 1992, the Beastie Boys had a song called "So What'cha Want." Why am I writing about a song from the early 90's, because it wasn't until today that I actually looked up who Eddie Harris was from the line in the song that the title of this little article comes from.  My assumption was that Eddie Harris was just someone the guys in the band new and put in the song. Not so.

Eddie Harris (October 20, 1934 – November 5, 1996) was an American jazz musician, best known for playing tenor saxaphone and for introducing the electrically amplified saxophone. He was also fluent on the electric piano and organ. His best-known compositions are "Freedom Jazz Dance", popularized by Miles Davi in 1966, and "Listen Here".

The Beastie Boys sampled a lot of Eddie Harris in their music and "Plug Me In" made since Eddie Harris used electric instruments, something new in the world of Jazz, and although I am not a huge Jazz guy, Eddie Harris is pretty amazing after listening to him for awhile.

Why am I putting this on a site that has mostly people too young to know the Beastie Boys? Well, the reason is without going down this rabbit hole, I was too young and would have never known about Eddie Harris. The internet can be great and can teach and show you things you would never know about. If you are bored this today, go find something new to love.
