In The Single Digits For This Snow Day

The rare snow day has come to my city.  Growing up in a small southern town, I did not see snow until I moved a few hours north as an adult.  The usual tradition for my family on a day like this is that I will make up fifteen or twenty index cards with activities to do, ranging anywhere from a group hug to watching a movie. I will place them facedown and the kids will take turns choosing them. Anything to pass the time.  The new card I came up with this time is to find quarters. Last night, I hid quarters from our change jar all over our house and the kids can find them and keep them.

I also throw in a few they will not like, such as "Find An Item To Donate To Goodwill," and "Clean The House For Twenty Minutes" and one my son will not care for, "Finish School Projects."

I don't think anyone that happens across this article will care too much about this, though, I myself have to pass the time somehow and am choosing to write something. Maybe I will start a fire in the fireplace a little while.

At some point, they are going to pick the dreaded "Go Outside And Sled" card.  That card makes me appreciate my parents as I think of all the things they did for me growing up, just to make me happy. Leaving my warm (well, semi-warm house, I can't afford to run the heat at 72 degrees on a day like this) to play in the snow, will make a great memory, but, I can't say I am looking forward to it.

Enjoy the day, wherever you are.
