The Rise of Coworking Spaces

When you think of a freelancer, you often think of a home office. Allowing you to schedule your day and give yourself flexible hours. But then again, it’s not for all people. Some can get “cabin fever.”

This is why we are seeing a rise in co-working spaces popping up globally catering to the ones who want to “get out of the house.”

It is estimated in 2018, 33% of today’s workforce are freelancing. By the end of 2019 it is expected to rise to 40%. These trends have brought a new growing market, the co-working industry.

In 2018 we saw the first major boom totaling an opening of 2,188 spaces worldwide. The outcome in 2019 is expected to reach 1,688 new spaces opening. This highlights the growth of 15.2% in 2018 and 9.2% for 2019 respectively.

“With the freelance market growing year by year, more and more people are benefiting from the perks these co-working spaces give them,” says Ivan CEO of CryptoTask. “80% of career success is literally showing up and meeting people. And these spaces offer networking events and collaborative environments between these freelancers.”

“Now, of course, co-working spaces are not meant for everyone. You, in fact, have to pay to be a member or own your seat. Could that money be spent elsewhere to further your career?” It comes down to budget and the needs of that individual.”

So what are the average global costs you may ask?

For your own private desk, known as “dedicated desk” the average cost is $348 per month according to DeskMag as shown in the image below.

For those who do not want their own dedicated desk, there are cheaper alternatives where you work from a location in the space that is available. This is known as “hot desk.” The average price globally is at $195 per month.
