When Art No Longer Fits in a Frame

"The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power." This is the rock solid definition of art that google almighty serves in its searching engine.

In my opinion art means much more than that, and that is why I consider that the forms of expression of human nature, and of its almost infinite talents, give the art much more value, than those already known, and bring much more activities to the rank of art, and such human experiences.

I call art everything that brings me into a state of contemplation, everything that causes me "tickling on the brain", probably you have experienced such strange sensations as well a few times in a lifetime, and last but not least, which can exalt your senses or what can somehow get you out of the human condition, considered art.

Certainly, many of the paintings of today do not constitute art for me, no matter how abstract some people, experts in the field, would try to make them look like, and no matter how much they would try to convince us that those scribbles are the representation of something beautiful, and can be defined as art. Let me show you my A in art with just a few examples.

The ability to speak/narrate on a certain frequency, which you feel brings you into a trance state, or better said into a transcendental state, in my opinion is an art form. Few people are born with such a voice, intonation and musicality in the voice, as few were born to put "The Four Seasons" on musical notes. This human expression often manages to "tickle my brain" so nice and disconnect me from the limited human nature that I feel most often bounded to, that I definitely consider as being art.

Another art form, according to my criteria of course, is the massage, that great one which is not available to anyone, and those who are truly talented and experienced for such a heavenly deed, are seen through my eyes as true artists. Again, not just what can be played on an instrument and recorded, or put on a wall, is considered art, and massage, in the right hands is a divine gift.

I'm not sure if photography was raised to the art rank, but I think it should. The ability to capture moments, landscapes, feelings, and last but not least colors and beyond colors, and to make them accessible to the whole world with a single click, is something extraordinary for our current times. We all have cameras, but not all of us are photographers, moreover there are many photographers, but only some photographers are artists.

The world of sports, can be considered art as well, and one of the examples that come to my mind right now is the rally. Driving with almost 200 kilometers per hour, on a narrow path, surrounded by trees and full of mud, and jumping a few meters in the air, while still remaining on the route after landing, is definitely a proof of the driving skills led to the rank of art. Yes, by my standards, even trivial activities such as driving a car can be transformed into art and they should be.

Last but not least, I would like to mention as an art form, the ability to make people laugh, or to be comic. I think laughter, the really healthy laughter and its absolutely necessary role in human life, is undervalued, and has the potential to become a true art form, if it has not already become. Remember that laughter is a medicine, and that could be more than art.

The reason I wrote this post, is because recently I met a lot of people and situations, who live far too much in the confining and limiting areas defined by other people, who in turn, of course, have also their limitations and prejudices, and then, I do I ask myself this question: how can a person who has certain limitations in thinking, certain traumas or sufferings, or more, little or no experience in a certain field, define what art is and who are the artists?

Looks like they can, and they've been doing that for centuries, and lets not forget that many fall for these types of definitions such as art, in our case, just as many fall into the pitfalls, involuntarily of course, of lifestyles established by parents, religions, cultures, societies, people in the social media and so on. Limits are often only the ones that we create ourselves.
